Development Is The Single Point Agenda That Can Give Votes And Seats To Parties

The recent general elections proved beyond doubt that the development is the single point that is capable of making or breaking government.

New Delhi: The recent Modi Tsunami that appeared in the general elections is a clear indication that ‘development’ is the single point agenda that is required at present. The 10 years mis-rule of UPA forced the country to the lowest levels in the sphere of development.

At the same time, BJP could prove a development model in Gujarat with NaMo as CM of the state. The BJP projected Narendra Modi as their PM candidate in the elections and throughout the election campaign Modi concentrated on single issue i.e, development. Less importance was given by Modi to other issues like personal attacks, caste/religion based vote bank politics etc.

Projecting his Gujarat model development, Modi has been able to create record of single party government at centre after 30 years (all these years there have been only coalition governments at centre). The Modi Tsunami also forced the opposition parties to make an alliance to get the opposition designation.

Most effected by the Modi wave has been the government in UP. The ruling party there (SP of Mulayam Singh) depended heavily on religion based vote bank politics. Another regional party from the same state (BSP of Mayawati) banked more on caste based vote bank politics. In the present elections, the performance of these two regional parties has been worse ever. SP got 5 (all from Mulayam’s family) & BSP got ZERO MP seats.

West Bengal presents another angle of the Modi Wave. This state got lesser impact of Modi Wave. The regional party ruling the state (All India Trinamool Congress of Mamata Banerjee) got 37 out of 42 MP seats in the state.

Tamilnadu offers another interesting aspect. The AIADMK party in the state (with CM Jayalalithaa as chief campaigner) got 37 out of 39 MP seats in the state.

Odisha is another example where Modi wave has less effect. Odisha gave 20 MP seats (out of 21) to BJD headed by Naveen Patnaik. Incidentally the assembly elections also favored Naveen Patnaik and he already took oath as CM of the state for the 4th consecutive term.

The governments in new states i.e., AP & Telangana have been blessed with the required support from the voters in the assembly elections. The cause for this success is that these parties (TDP in AP &TRS in Telangana) talked about the development that they plan to implement in the new government. In both the states, TDP and BJP are having pre-poll alliance and the alliance proved to be win-win for both the partners. Pawan Kalyan factor in the politics of these states can’t be ignored. Pawan also talked of development with the help of NDA in centre and TDP at AP state level.
