All about Motorola’s latest smart watch – Moto 360

Moto 360 is the new generation smart watch, the first entry by Motorola in the world of smart watches powered by Android Wear. Not just that. Moto 360 is meant to integrate the wearer’s entire online world to his wrist. Android Wear brings with it the predictable features of Google Now, like showing the weather conditions, reminding of upcoming events or travel time.

Beijing: Also the user will be able to keep in touch through email or chat without having to take out the phone from his pocket. Finally all this, one will be able to do without even as much as touching his smart watch but through voice controls because it is Android Wear.

Moto 360 will sport an iconic design, with a round face and quality material, says Motorola. It will feel “comfortable and familiar”, the company says as this has been a longstanding criticism against smart watches. “It’s everything you need, with a look that you want,” Motorola said in an announcement. Moto 360 will be available in the summer of 2014, launching first in the United States. It will be available globally at some point of time, Motorola assured.

By the way, Moto 360 is Motorola’s first Android Wear device and one of the only two flagship Android Wear products. The other is LG G Watch. Android Wear aims to integrate smart watches to work well with Google Now and bring about a wave of better products.

The Moto 360 has an interesting round design – a change from the usual square ones that we see often. It looks like a regular watch. But function wise, Google Now and other services makes it useful in a variety of ways. It is waterproof like the Pebble and likely good for swimming. As of date, Motorola says that its smart watch does not use micro-USB. Maybe it uses some other wireless technology which we may come to know only in June when Google I/O is out.

Given that it sports Android Wear, it is likely compatible with any Android 4.3 phone. The round design is meant to appeal to a wide range of customers including women. There are rumors of customized bands as well besides the usual steel and leather varieties. The design is meant for right or left hand use.

The watch will be true to its nature and show you the time whenever you lift your wrist, unlike other smart watches where this is not possible. Motorola has also assured that battery life of Moto 360 has improved from its previous experience with watches. Information on the exact date of availability and the price of course is not yet revealed.
