08.01.2014: Meena Kandasamy won Mayilamma Award. She is Chennai based poet. This award is named after Plachimada Heroine. She campaigned against Coca Cola Company at Kerala’s Plachimada Village. Meena won the award for her social activism and efforts for the empowerment of women.

Sony sold 4.2 million Play Station Consoles in 2013

08.01.2013: Sony sold 4.2 million Play Station Consoles (PS4) in 2013. In the last year i.e 2012, sales of these play station consoles is 3 million. Sales of these play station Consoles defeated the sales record of main rival Microsoft Xbox one. Daily sales since November of PS4 is 98000 and Xbox One sales are 77000. Cost of Xbox One is $ 499 and Cost of PS4 is $ 399.

JP Morgan to pay $ 1.7 billion fine in Bernard Madoff case

08.01.2014: For failing to report suspicious activities by Bernard Madoff, JP Morgan has to pay $ 1.7 billion fine. Bernard is a jailed investor whose financial schemes eventually cost his clients billion of dollars.

08.01.2014: New CEO of Unior India is Marten Sorby. He was appointed by Telenor group. Earlier Sigve Brekke acted as CEO of Unior India. Currently Marten is acting as Groups executive Vice President in Charge of Corporate strategy and regulatory affairs.

MP Government decided to roll back the cabinet decision relating to foreign liquor

08.01.2014: Cabinet had taken a decision to sell Indian Foreign liquor at Country Liquor outlets. This decision was ruled back by Government of Madhya Pradesh. Decision was rolled back after 2 day long state executive meeting of BJP. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, taken a decision not to sold IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) at country made liquor shops. With the intension to prevent the sale of spurious liquor this decision was taken.

08.01.2014: To extend the Psychological support to molestation victims, Department of Health Research issued new guidelines. Guidelines deal with the problems of secondary victimization.

Know India Programme for young launched by Indian Government

08.01.2014: Know India Programme for young persons of overseas Indians introduced Government of India at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD). Under this programme every year 20 people of Indian origin from different countries will be invited to provide them the opportunity to have better opportunity to known about Indian society and people. These 20 persons should be between the age group of 18 to 24 years.
