Micromax A113 Ego launched for Rs 12,999

Micromax has launched yet another budget quad core smartphone that comes with a 4.7 inch screen and has everything that goes in its favour.

Mid- range smartphone market is where real growth is.’ Many smartphone manufacturers have adopted this sentence as their business mantra. This is precisely why we see more than a dozen launches every week in this segment. Indian handset maker Micromax has brought out one of those dozen launches for this week.

The company has come out with its latest add on to the Canvas series; Canvas Ego A 113. Most online stores have listed it for Rs 13,000. Let’s look at its specs-
1) 1.2 GHz quad-core processor (MediaTek
2) 1 GB RAM, 4 GB internal storage which can be expanded further using MicroSD card slot
3) 8 megapixel auto focus rear camera
4) 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen
5) 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS for network and FM Radio for entertainment on the move
6) Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Operating System
7) Dual-SIM (GSM+GSM)
8) 2000 mAh battery to stand by for more than 300 hours
With all such features, the devices is set to make a strong point on the shelves. However, we have written this several times in the past that Micromax has a tendency to get several devices in the market which have got almost similar pricing. Hence, these devices do not complement each other. Rather, these eat into each other’s market share.

In A 113′s case as well, one can easily buy many sub 15 k devices from Micromax. Apart from this, you can also consider XOLO Q1000 which has got a 5 inch HD IPS screen. Alternatively, you can go with Lava Iris 504Q with better looks and almost similar specs, for a little lesser amount. Both these devices are quad core and offer similar camera features.

While there is nothing as wrong in the device to give negative recommendation about it, the company needs to play intelligently as far as its price-features parity is concerned because budget smartphone segment is simply, the trickiest one. The Canvas HD retails for a similar price and makes for a better buy when it comes to choosing between the two of them.
