New Delhi:

When technology is making its impact felt in every aspect of, why education should be left behind? Perhaps this is the thought which went into Indian peripheral maker iBall’s foray into education tablets. Its latest Edu-Slide comes with educational content for IIT-JEE entrance test aspirants (iBall has tied up with Bansal Classes for this). The content includes a master problem package, eBooks for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with personalization tools. The company expects the device to be used by those who are preparing for competitive exams, with or without any coaching.

The tablet comes in Wi-Fi and 3G variants. The basic difference between the two is that the 3G variant runs ona quad-core processor and supports dual-SIM.Rest everything remains the same as the Wi-Fi variant. Here is the detailed specification-

  • 10.1-inch IPS HD display with a resolution of 1280×1024 pixels
  • 1.5GHz Dual-core A9 processor in Wi-Fi variant
  • Unspecified Quad-Core processor in 3G variant
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 8GB of built-in storage, expandable up to 32GB via microSD
  • 8-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera.
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI port and 3G via USB dongle for connectivity

  • 8000mAH powerful battery

The device also comes pre-loaded with the foundation content for standard 11th and 12th for PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) with over 200 hours of audio visual content and question banks. While the pre-loaded content may be helpful to many, the company must also be looking around ways in which it can add or feed the content to the device in the real time basis. Only then it can really be called an educational tablet.

The iBall Edu-Slide Wi-Fi variant comes at a price point of Rs. 30,999 while the 3G variant has a price tag of Rs. 35,999. Market for educational tablets has yet to pick up in India. Let’s see if this launch makes any impact.
