New Delhi: The budget session announcements have disturbed almost all segments of the automobile industry of India. Government has hiked up the taxes on four wheelers, two wheelers and the import – export duties have also been hiked up which has added extra burden for them. All car makers in the country have already increased prices on their models in the domestic market and now it’s the turn of to wheeler makers.

The leading two wheeler maker of the country Bajaj has decided to increase prices on all of its models. Bajaj had a slight decay in sale volume in the month of March this year comparatively which is one of the reasons for the manufacturer to put burden on the heads of customers. But the executives of the company have stated that they have opted for price hike due to increased logistics expenditures in the country as a result of continuous hike in diesel price. Bajaj has sold 10 % lesser units in the month March – 2013 relatively than March – 2012. All Bajaj two wheeler models will be Rs. 500 costlier than the current prices from now on.

One of the leading two wheeler makers of India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has also opted for price hike on all models. Honda too showed the same reason for the proposal of price hike. Honda stated officially that increased diesel prices have hiked up the transportation costs and thus they have decided to increase the prices on all models. All models of Honda will be Rs. 800 costlier than the current prices from now on.

Mr. Y S Guleria, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for HMSI has stated in connection with the price hike “We have hiked the prices of all our models by Rs. 200 – Rs. 800 from 1st April. It is done mainly because of the impact of diesel price increase in recent times. Besides, recently insurance charges also increased. So, finally we decided to pass on some burden to the consumers”.
