Civils 2013 Exam Pattern: Candidates Can Choose Any Language for Civils Exam

New Delhi: Central government of India withdrew proposed changes to Civils exams. A notification was released to clear the confusion regarding Civils exams. According to the notification, candidates can choose any of the 22 languages approved in the 8th schedule for writing Civil exams. They can also choose English for writing the exam.

Earlier it was said that to choose a regional language for writing Civils exam, the candidates must have read the language in degree level. Now the candidates can choose any language as an optional. In place of English essay writing paper, two qualifying papers for 300 marks are introduced one of the qualifying papers will be in modern Indian language and another will be in English. The 250 marks essay writing paper can be written in any language by the candidates.

Civils Main Exam Pattern

  • Candidates can choose any of the Indian languages to write the Civils exam. They can also write the exam in English
  • Paper I and Paper II are in qualifying papers. Each carries 300 marks. One paper has to be written in modern Indian language and another in English language.
  • Paper 3 is compulsory essay writing paper and it carries 250 marks.
  • Genera studies paper will consist four papers. Each carries 250 marks.
  • Paper 4: Indian culture, history, geography etc
  • Paper 5: Government, constitution, society, social justice and international relations
  • Paper -6: Technology, Economy, Development, Bio diversity
  • Paper-7: Moral values
  • Paper 8, 9 carry 250 marks each. Candidates will have to choose an optional subject. He can choose the optional from 25 main subjects and 23 languages including Indian languages and English.
  • There will be a personality test/interview which for the candidates who quality in written exam. This carries 275 marks.
