Railway board has taken an unusual decision to prevent irregularities in the sale of Railway tickets.  Train passengers will now have to show their ID card to travel by train.  This rule will be applied to AC class passengers in the first stage and sleeper class passengers in the second stage.  If the passengers do not possess an ID card they will have to pay double the amount of ticket value as fine.  This new system will be implemented from 15th February, 2012.  Presently train passengers who take Tatkal and e-tickets were only have to show their identity cards.  Passengers without any ID cards are not allowed to travel.  Railway department has introduced this new system to prevent irregularities in the sale of Tatkal and e-tickets.

It is observed by Railway department that there are irregularities in the reservation of tickets in railway stations also.  Authorized agents are selling reservation tickets with the help of railway authorities by paying them bribes.  To prevent these, railway department is planning to make it compulsory to produce ID cards for all types of reservation tickets.
