Vehicle insurance
The reason why most of the motor vehicle insurance claims are rejected is because of not following the rules. If the policy holder has to licence or if he has taken alcohol while driving the vehicle, the claim will be rejected. If the information of the accident is not immediately given to the insurance company also, the claim will be rejected.
As per the motor vehicles act, third part insurance is compulsory for every vehicle. The following is the procedure to claim the insurance amount when the vehicle is involved in an accident.
Road accidents: Generally all the vehicle insurance claims are made because of road accidents. Consumer should therefore have basic awareness of these policies. When the car of the policy holder hits another vehicle, the information should immediately be given to the insurance company. An FIR should be taken from the traffic police. If the car is not in a condition to move, it should be taken to a nearby garage for repairs. If cashless facility is offered by the company, the policy holder need not pay any money for the repairs.
If another vehicle hits the vehicle of the policy holder, the registration number of that vehicle has to be informed to the insurance company. If the policy holder or the other persons travelling in car get injured the information should immediately be given to the police.
Motor vehicle theft: If the car of the policy holder is stolen, inform to the nearby police station and the insurance company. If the car cannot be traced, take a letter from the police and submit to the insurance company. This document is given by the police within 30 – 60 days from the day of making a complaint.
