In the Persian language Dehleez means entrance. It is believed that the word gradually became Delhi. It is also believed that a city is build in the memory of a Mouryan king ‘Raja Dhillu’ in 50 BC and later in usage it has become Delhi. The borders of Delhi are Uttar Pradesh in the East and Haryana in North, south and west sides. In 1638, a big stone wall was built around the city with seven gates. Delhi gate in south, Ajmer gate in east and Kashmir gate in north are still present.

Pragati Maidan is a trade centre spread in an area of seven acres. International trade fairs are held here year long. India Expo centre, exhibitions, conferences, launching of new products are held at Pragati Maidan. Connaught place, Palika bazaar are the places where one can see shopping, business, eating out, cinema halls and galleries. Nehru place is an IT hub. With many hardware and software Companies multinational showrooms, Delhi reminds one or a global market.

Delhi is the capital city of India from thousands of years. Though many dynasties rules India, Delhi remained the capital city for many of them. Historians are of the opinion that the capital city of Pandavas – Indraprastha is a part of present Delhi city.

Delhi is referred officially as National Capital Territory of Delhi. Delhi is the biggest metropolitan city in India. According to archaeology survey, Delhi has more than sixty thousand historic constructions. Delhi was a union territory and through the 69th constitution amendment it has been given the status of a state in 1991.
