Arjun Thapa is Secretary General of SAARC

9.2.2016: Arjun Thapa is appointed as e Secretary general of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.  He will succeed Ahmed Saleem of Maldives. Arjun Thapa is a former diplomat and is 58 years old. He belongs to Nepal.  He will be in this position for three years after taking charge on 1st March of this year. This is the second time that someone from Nepal became the secretary general of SAARC. The other one is Yadav Kanta Silwal who served as Secretary General from 1994 to 1995.

Highest Paid CEO in US is Sundar Pichai

9.2.2016: Sundar Pichai, the head of Google has become the highest paid CEO in US after being handed over the 273, 328 shares and the worth of the shares is $199 million.  His present holdings in parent company Alphabet are now worth $650 million.  Sundar Pichai is with Google as the CEO since October 2015.

New Vice Chairman of Tea Board is Bidyananda Barkakoty

9.2.2016: Tea Board of India elected Bidyananda Barkakoty in its board meeting.  He will take charge on 1st of April this year and will continue in the post for one year.  He is a mechanical engineer and has his own tea plantations in Assam.  He also served as chairman of North Eastern Tea Association. He is also the advisor to NETA.

Rajendra K Pachauri is the new Executive Vice Chairman of TERI

9.2.2016: Rajendra Kumar Pachauri is appointed as the executive vice chairman of The Energy and Resource Institute.  The post is newly created and Pachauri is the new first one to hold it.  He is the former director General of TERI.

9th February is the Safer Internet Day

9.2.2016: Ninth February of every year is observed as Safer Internet Day.  The theme of this year’s day was ‘play your part for a better internet’.  On this occasion, Facebook shared tips to help its users take control over privacy and security.  Facebook also given some tips for parents.
