Dr Kamlesh Kumar Pandey Appointed the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities
31.1.2016: Dr Kamlesh Kumar Pandey is appointed as the chief commissioner for persons with disabilities. He will hold this post for three years from now. Dr Pandey was with NGO Saksham prior to this appointment. He obtained his medical graduate degree from Agra University in 1990. Earlier, he worked with Sewa Bharti and another NGO Akhil Bharatiya Dristhin Kalyan Sangh which worked for visually challenged people. The chief commissioner for CCPD is appointed by central government.
K Veeramani Social Justice Award for Nitish Kumar
31.1.2016: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is chosen for K Veeramani Social Justice Award for his contribution for upliftment of weaker sections of the society. The award is given annually by Periyar International. It is named after K Veeramani, President of Dravidar Kazhagam party. It carries a cash prize of one lakh rupees and a plaque. VP Singh, Sitaram Kesari, Mayawati and Karunanidhi also received these awards.
William E.Colby Award for Indian Author Nisid Hajari
31.1.2016: Indian author Nisid Hajari won William E.Colby award for his book Midnight’s Furies: The Deadly Legacy of India’s Partition. Nisid Hajari is presently with Bloomberg News’s Asia Coverage for Bloomberg view. He was also the editor of Newsweek International, New York for ten years. He is the member of Council on Foreign Relations. William E.Colby award is given by William E.Colby Military Writers’ Symposium Norwich University.
India Cleansweeps T20 Series
31.1.2016: Team India successfully chased the big score set by Australia in the last and final match in the three match T20 series. The match was played in the Sidney cricket ground and India won the match by seventh wickets. Australia set a target of 198 runs and India chased the target by losing three wickets. Sikhar Dhawan gave a good start with 26 runs in 9 balls. Rohit and Kohli scored half centuries. Kohli is named the man of the series. This is the highest target chasing for India in Australia. Kohli became the first batsman to score three half centuries in bilateral T20 series.
