New Director of United Nations Information Centre is Tamar Hahn

14.2.2016: UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon appointed Tamar Hahn as the Director of United National Information Centre, Argentina.  Tamar Hahn belongs to Israel and was the regional adviser for Resource Mobilization and Partnerships at UNFPA regional office in Panama City prior to this appointment.

Note Malayalam Poet O N V Kurup Passed Away

14.2.2016: It is a great loss for the Malayalam literacy as the noted poet and lyricist ONV Kurup passed away. He breathed his last in Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 84.  His name was Ottaplakkal Nambiyadikkal Velu Kurup but was popularly known as ONV.  He provided lyrics to many hit Malayalam films. 

Sania, Martina win the St Petersburg Ladies Tournament

14.2.2016: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis clinched their fourth title of the season when they won the St Petersburg Ladies Tournament.  The duo already won 40 consecutive titles.  They equal the longest unbeaten run record set by Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova if they win another four consecutive titles.

Neem Extract to Treat Pancreatic Cancer

14.2.2016: Scientist from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso conducted as study on benefits of neem to treat to pancreatic cancer and revealed that Neem Extract may actually help to treat pancreatic cancer without damaging the healthy cells around.  Neem has Nimbolide compound which was used in cancer cells in mice.  The studies showed that the compound can stop the growth of pancreatic cancer.

Banaras Hindu University Turned 100

14.2.2016: Banaras Hindu University turned 100 years on 13th February. The university was founded by Pt Madan Mohan Malviya in 1916.  The university also played an important role in freedom movement.  BHU currently offers courses in 140 departments including Indian Institute of Technology and Institute of Medical Sciences.  More than 15,000 students are studying in the university.

World’s Highest Railway Bridge coming up in Jammu and Kashmir

14.2.2016: Indian railways is going to build a rail bridge which is going to be the highest in the world in Jammu and Kashmir. The bridge is 35 m higher than Eiffel tower.  It will be constructed over Chenab River, it is informed.
