B M Bhanumurthy Appointed the New Chief Operating Officer of Wipro
9.1.2016: B M Bhanumurthy is appointed as the new chief operating officer of Wipro. Bhanumurthy was with Wipro since 1992. He is presently the president and chief executive of Business Application Services. Few days ago, Wipro named Abidali Neemuchawala as the new chief executive officer. G K Prasanna is given the new role to head a newly created business unit MIT as the president. Marketing, Innovations and Technology, the new unit will focus on integrated solutions, research, product and platform based services and non linear growth engines.
Sania – Hingis Duo Lift Brisbane International Title
9.1.2016: Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won the sixth consecutive title by winning Brisbane Trophy. They defeated Angelique Kerber and Andrea Petkovic by 7-5, 6-1. The final match ended in just 69 minutes. Sania and Martina are the number one team in women’s doubles category. They won US open, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Beijing and WTA finals earlier. They broke the record of Sara and Roberta who won five consecutive titles.
43rd World Book Fair Inaugurated by Smriti Irani
9.1.2016: Smriti Irani, human resource minister inaugurated the 43rd World Book Fair in New Delhi. The fair is held for nine days and thirty countries are participating in it. Series of programs will be held including dramas, classical and folk dances, conference and cultural programs. China is also participating and 50 publishing houses and 9 authors will bring around five thousand titles. China is the guest of honor. Highlight of the fair this year is the Navlekhan program which is meant to promote young authors. Books in six regional languages are published this year and in coming year, books in 22 regional languages will be published, assured Smriti Irani.
Narendra Modi is Chief Guest for Sustainable Agriculture Meet
9.1.2016: national conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Darmers Welfare is going to be held in Sikkim on January 17 and 18. Prime Minister Modi will be the chief guest. Bankers, practitioners, academics, scientists and state government representatives will attend the conference.
