R K Mathur Sworn in as Chief Information Commissioner

4.1.2015: R K Mathur, former defence secretary took charge as the chief information commissioner. He was sworn in by president of India, Pranab Mukherjee.  The commission has 10 information commissioners and one chief.  Three information commission posts are vacant and the seven commissioners are Sharat Sabharwal, Yashovardhan Azad, MA Khan Yusufi, Basant Seth, Manjula Prasher, Madabhushanam Sridhar Acharyulu and Sudhir Bhargava.

T K Kurient is the new Vice Chairman of Wipro

4.2.2016: Wipro announced many management changes.  The chief executive officer T K Kurien is elevated as the executive vice chairman.  Other elevation is for Adibali who was the chief operating officer who is now the chief executive officer.  These will take charge in February 1st this year.  Kurien will be the vice chairman until March 2017.  Neemuchwala is going to be the new CEO for the next five years.

2015 SAFF Champions are India

4.1.2016: India won the South Asian Football Federation Cup championships.  The final match was played between India and Afghanistan. The match was played in Trivandrum International Stadium of Kerala.  India scored two goals and Afghanistan 1.  India’s goals were scored by Jeje Lalpehlua and the other by Indian captain Sunil Chhetri.  India won the championships seven times till now. Afghan were winners in 2013.

World Braille Day celebrated on 4th January

4.1.2015: The birthday of Louis Braille is celebrated as World Braille Day.  Braille was the inventor of a system of reading and writing for blind people.  The system is now referred as Braille.  This year, it is the 207th birth anniversary of Louis Braille.  He was born on 4th January, 1809 and died on 6th January, 1852.

LIC Jeevan Labh Launched

4.2.2016: Limited premium, non linked endowment assurance plan is launched by LIC. Dubbed as Jeevan Labh, the plan is available for people between the age group of 8 and 59.  While the premium can be paid for limited period, the risk is covered for whole term.  LIC is also offering accidental death and disability benefit rider with Jeevan Labh.
