Ravi Chellam is the Executive Director of Greenpeace India
21.1.2016: Ravi Chellam is appointed as the executive director of Greenpeace India. He will succeed Samit Aich who resigned in June last year. He was charged with sexual harassment cases. Ravi Chellam is noted environmentalist and he took over on 20th January.
Journalist Aroon Tikekar Passed Away
21.1.2016: Senior journalist Aroon Tikekar passed away at the age of 72 in Mumbai. He authored more than twenty books and was associated with many news papers during his journalist career. He began his career as Reference chief of Times of India. He also worked as editor of Loksatta, Marathi news paper. He received many awards for his contribution to literacy and journalism.
Jagdeesh Kumar is new Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University
21.1.2016: M Jagdeesh Kumar, an IIT professor is going to took over as the vice chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. His appointment is approved by president of India Pranab Mukherjee. His name was forwarded by ministry of Human resource Development along with other three names. He is presently the electrical engineering professor at IIT Delhi.
Tennis Player Llenyton Hewitt Retired
21.1.2016: Former world number one Lleyton Hewitt announced his retirement from professional cricket. His final tournament was Australian open in which he was defeated by David Ferrer of Spain. He lost the match to Ferrer 6.2, 6.4 and 6.4. He bid an emotional farewell wearing a shirt with Australia flag and he was joined by his three children on court. He was warned for slamming the umpire as an idiot.
PSLV-C31 Successfully Launched
21.1.2016: PSLV-C31, a satellite that provides navigation, tracking and mapping services to India was launched successfully from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikot. This is the fifth constellation of Indian Space Research Organization. This is the thirty second consecutive success mission of Polar satellite launch vehicle PSLV-C31. The satellite will provide two types of services, restricted services for authorized users and standard positioning services provided for all users.
