Punita Sinha appointed Independent Director of Infosys

15.1.2016: Union Minister Jayant Sinha’s wife Punita Sinha is appointed as independent director of Infosys. She is the founder of Pacific Paradigm Advisory and management firm.  She is also independent director for several other companies. An independent director on Infosys director board earns around Rs. 1 core for annum which is the sitting fee.

Actor Rajesh Vivek Upadhyay Passed Away

15.1.2016: Rajesh Vivek Upadhyay, Bollywood actor passed away.  He was popular for the character he played in the movie Lagaan.  He also played many varieties of character in televisions shows also which include Bharat ki Khoj and Mahabharat.

Sania Mirza Marina Hingis Claim WTA Apia International Title 2016

15.1.2016: Sania and Martina lifted the WTA Apia International Title. This is the second WTA trophy and is the 30th consecutive win.  They defeated Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic 1-6, 7-5 and 10-5. The match ended in one hour thirteen minutes.  Since 2015, the pair won eleven titles including Brisbane International trophy this year.  In 2015 also Sania and Hingis won the WTA finale.

Former World No. 1 Marat Safin Inducted into International Tennis Hall of Fame

15.1.2016: Russian Tennis Federation announced the induction of former world no. 1 tennis player Marat Safin into International Tennis Hall of Fame. The official ceremony is scheduled for 16th July this year.  Marat Safin’s tennis career began in 1997.  He became the no. 1 world player in the year November 2000 for nine weeks.  His first grand slam title win was in the year 2000 when he won US open title by defeating Pete Sampras.  He won 14 major titles in doubles and mixed doubles categories.

January 15th Observed as 68th Indian Army Day

15.1.2016: January 15 of every year is observed as Indian Army Day.  On 15th January, 1949 KM Cariappa became first commander-in-chief of Indian Army after Independence.  This day marks a day to pay homage to all those brave soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives for the country and the people.
