25.1.2016: Actor Rajnikanth, Ramoji Rao, Sri Ravi Shankar are among those who are Awarded Padma Vibhushan. Padma Bhushan awards are announced for Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, Singer Udit Narayan and CAG Vinod Rai.  Dhirubhai Ambani s awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously.  Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal are also given Padma Bhushan.  Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra and Ajay Devgan are among those who are awarded Padma Shri.

New CMD of General Insurance Corporation of India is Alice Vaidyan

25.1.2016: Alice Vaidyan is appointed as the chairman and managing director of General Insurance Corporation of India.  She will be in this position till 31st July, 2019.  She is presently the general manger and CFO of the company from October 2012.  She is a post graduate in English literature and began her career in insurance in 1983.

Malayalam Actress Kalpana Died of Heart Attack

25.1.2016: National award winning actress Kalpana passed away in Hyderabad due to heart attack.  The actress was 51.  She acted in more than three hundred films. The actress was in Hyderabad for the shooting of a film.  She began her career in films as a child artiste in 1977.  Her popular films include Bangalore Days, Ennum Eppuzhum, Idhaya Thiruda, Sathi Leelavathi and Chinna Veedu.  She is survived by a doctor.

Giriputrika Kalyana Pathakam Launched in Andhra Pradesh

25.1.2016: Andhra Pradesh social welfare minister Ravela Kishore Babu launched the Giriputrika Kalyana Pathkam for tribal women.  Aimed to reduce infant mortality and child marriages in trails, the scheme provides financial assistance up to Rs. 50,000 for each tribal woman who gets married and also to provide nutritional food to infants till they reach the age of seven years.  The tribal women have to submit their marriage certificate and income certificate.

Make payment Online for LPG Refills

25.1.2016: The facility to pay online for LPG refills is launched by Dharmendra Pradhan, Petroleum and Natural Gas union minister.  Customers can now book their refill and make the payment at www.mylpg.in.  The minister also informed that EMI payment model for non-BPL customers for taking new gas connections is also being considered.
