Indian Origin Harjit Sajjan is the Defence Minister of Canada

5.11.2015: Harjit Sajjan, the Indo Canadian Sikh Harjit Sajjan is sworn in as defence minister of Canada.  He will succeed Jason Kenney.  He was sworn in along with 30 member that of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.  Trudeau is the 23rd prime minister of Canada.  Sajjan is elected as Member of Parliament for Vancouver South.  He received many military awards.

Navtej Singh Sarna is the new Indian High Commissioner to UK

5.11.2015: Navtej Singh Sarna, who belongs to 190 batch Indian Foreign Service is appointed as Indian High Commissioner to United Kingdom.  He was serving as Secretary West in External Affairs ministry.  He also served in Indian missions to various countries that include Moscow, Warsaw, Geneva and Washington DC. He authored many books that include The Exile, We Weren’t lovers and The Book of Nanak.

Surjit Chatterjee Appointed by Flipkart as Head of Consumer Experience

5.11.2015: Surjit Chatterjee is appointed by Flipkart as the senior vice president and head of consumer experience and growth. Prior to this appointment, he was the head of mobile search advertising and Adsense for Search at Google.  He was also with Oracle and IBM and Symantec Corporation earlier.

PM Narendra Modi launched Gold Related Schemes

5.11.2015: Three gold related schemes were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  The three schemes launched were Indian Gold Coins, Sovereign Gold Bond scheme and Gold Monetization Scheme.  These schemes were announced by Arun Jaitley in February budget speech.  The schemes are aimed to recycle unutilized gold in India and to prevent dependency of the country on imported gold.

Jitu Rai wins First Senior Medal at Asian Shooting Championship

5.11.2015: Shooter Jitu Rai of India won the silver medal 13th Asian Shooting Championship held in Kuwait city.  This is the first senior medal at the event being held in Kuwait city.  He won the medal in men’s 50 metre pistol event.  The gold medal is won by Park Daehun or Korea.  Jitu’s final score was 189.5 while the gold medal winner’s score was 199.2.
