5.10.2015: Flipkart announced the appointment of Sriram Venkataraman as the new Chief Finance Officer.  Flipkart also appointed Pramod Jain as vice president and head of taxation.  Venkatraman will supervise all finance functions for commerce platform.

Ashish Bahuguna is the CEO of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India

5.10.2015: Ashish Bahuguna the chairman of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is given the additional charge of chief executive officer of the organization.  He is a retired IAS officer belonging to 1978 batch Rajasthan cadre.  He will succeed Yudhvir Singh Malik who is shifted to NITI Aayog as additional secretary.  Ashish Bahuguna will be in this position until a new CEO is appointed.

OLF Samanvay Bhasha Award Won by Perumal Murugan

5.10.2015: The organizers of fourth Indian Languages Festival announced that Tamil Writer Perumal Murugan will be honored with Samnvay Bhasha Samman award.  This award is given every year for those who make great contribution to Indian literature.  Madhorubhagan is the novel for which the writer will receive the award.  He will receive the award on November 28.  Ashok Vajpeyi, Chandrakanth Topiwala and Sitakant Mahapatra are the others who won the award earlier.


FIBA Asian Basketball Championship 2015 Won by China

5.10.2015: China won the International Basketball Federation Asia Championship 2015. The team defeated Philippines in the final match.  With this the China team is qualified for 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.  Yi Jianlian is selected as Most Valuable Player of the tournament. He scored 15 rebounds in the final game and also score maximum runs.

Luis Leao Pinto wins Asia’s Premier Mountain Biking Race

5.10.2015: Luis Leao Pinto of Portugal won Asia’s premier mountain biking race. He is crowned the King of the Himalaya. This is the second time that he won the race.  He won the race in 2013.


Anti-Drug Addiction Day Observed on 2nd October

5.10.2015: 2nd October of every year observed as National Anti-drug addiction day.  The day is the birth anniversary of Father of National Mahatma Gandhi.  Union government of India created the day to free the country in the backdrop of growing drug addiction in India.
