Shekhar Basu Appointed the Chairman of AEC
26.10.2015: The new chairman and Secretary of Atomic Energy Commission is Shekhar Basu. He will be replacing Ratan Kumar Sinha. The nuclear scientist joined BARC in 1975. He also served as the director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. He received Padma Shri in the year 2015. He was honored with the award recognizing his contribution to technology.
Suresh Arora is the new DGP of Punjab
26.10.2015: Punjab government appointed Suresh Arora as the new Director General of Police. He is an IPS officer belonging to 1982 batch. Suresh Arora won President’s Meritorious Medal, Prakram Medal and many other gallantry medals and awards. His role is fighting terrorism is very important. He was the superintendent of Police and senior SP during Operation Black Thunder I and II in Amritsar.
South Africa Wins ODI Series Against India
26.10.2015: South Africa defeated India in the 5th and final match played on 25th of this month and won the 5 match OD series. First match was won by South Africa. India won the second match and the third was won by South Africa. The fourth match was won by India. Fifth and final match was played by South Africa with a huge margin of 214 runs.
Abhishek Verma won Silver Medal in Archery World Cup
26.10.2015: Abhishek Verma, archer from India won silver medal in Archery World Cup 2015. He is the first Indian to win the final medal at the event. The tournament was held in Mexico City. He also won gold medals at compound archery team event and silver medal at Asian games in south Korea in 2014.
World Polio Day Observed on 24th October, 2015
26.10.2015: 24th October every year is observed as world polio day. Rotary International was the first to introduce the day to create awareness about the disease. October 24 is the birth day of Jonas Salk, the was the leader of team that developed Poliomyelitis vaccine. Albert Sabin developed oral poliovirus and the use of these two helped eradicate the disease to great extent.
