Malcolm Turnbull is the new Prime Minister of Australia

15.9.2015: Malcolm Turnbull is the 29th prime minister of Australia.  He is the 4th prime minister of the country who is sworn in the last two years.  He was sworn in by Peter Cosgrove, the governor general.  Malcolm served as the Communication minister of Australia earlier.  He became the prime minister by defeating Tony Abbott in internal party leadership ballot. He received 54 votes and defeated his opponent by 10 votes. 

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wins UN Award

15.9.2015: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won the United National Champions of the Earth Award. This is in recognition of her country’s initiatives to address climate change. Bangladesh is one of the most populated countries in the world. It has more than 159 million people.  Bangladesh is hit by cyclones, floods and droughts frequently which have intensified in last few years.

Sunjeev Sahota Shortlisted for Man Booker Prize

15.9.2015: Sunjeev Sahota, Indian origin British author is shortlisted for Man Booker Prize for fiction.  He is among six others who are short listed for the prestigious prize.  Two of the shortlisted writers are from US, two are from US and one each are from Nigeria and Jamaica.  Sahota was born in 1981.  He is now living in Sheffield.  His debut novel was ‘Ours are the streets’.

SimplyClick Card from SBI Card

15.9.2015: SBI Card launched a new card SimplyClick.  The credit card issuers announced the collaboration with Amazon India, BookMy\Show, FabFurnish, Lenskart, Food Panda and Ola Cable.  The new SimplyClick credit card focuses on online shopping. Online shopping is growing in India because of ease of payment options and interesting deals offered by various online shopping sites.

India celebrated National Engineers Day on 15th September  

15.9.2015: National Engineers Day is celebrated in India on 15th September which is the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visveswarayya.  The theme of this year’s Engineers day is “Engineering Challenges for Knowledge Era”. Visveswarayya who is honored with Bharat Ratna award in 1955 was born on 1860.  He designed Khandakwasla Dam, Tigra Dam and also many other projects.
