Hormusji N Cama is the New Chairman of Press Trust of India
14.9.2015: Hormusji N Cama is elected as the Press Trust of India chairman. He is presently the managing director of Bombay Samachar. Cama is the member of the press council. He succeeded Mohan Gupta as Chairman. Cama also served as the President of Indian Newspaper Society.
Ashok Sridharan is the first Indian Origin man to Become Mayor in Germany
14.9.2015: Forty nine year old Sridharan, an Indian Origin man became the mayor of Germany’s Bonn City. He secured absolute majority in the elections. He is elected as a candidate of Christian Democratic union to end the 21 year rule of the city by Social Democratic Party. He will take over the reigns as the mayor on October 21.
Kalamandalam Satyabhama, Mohiniyattam Exponent Passed Away
14.9.2015: Well known Mohiniyattam dancer and Padma Shree awardee Kalamandalam Satyabhama passed away. She was 77 and was undergoing treatment for brief illness. Kerala Chief Minister expressed grief at the demise of Satyabhama.
Novok Djokovic won 2015 US Open men’s Singles Title
14.9.2015: Novok Djokovic defeated Roger Federer to win the 2015 US Open Men’s Singles Title. He won the game with 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. This is the second US Open title for Djokovic and the tenth grand slam singles title. However Roger Federer is still the number one player by winning 17 grand slam titles. Novok and Djokovic and Federer faced each other for 42 times and the series is tied with 21-21.
Flavia Pennetta won the US Open Women’s Singles Title 2015
14.9.2015: Flavia Pennetta, an Italian won the US Open Women’s singles title 2015. This is the first grand slam title for her. She defeated another Italian player Roberta Vinci by 7-6, 7-4, 6-2 in the match that was played in New York. Pennetta is the second Italian to win one of the tennis major grand slams.
14th September is the Hindi Divas
14.9.2015: Fourteenth September is observed as Hindi Divas day across India. This is to promote the mother tongue of India. Rajbhash awards were presented by Pranab Mukherjee on this occasion in a function held in Rashtrapathi Bhavan.
