10.9.2015: Bollywood actor Anupam Kher was conferred with Guest of Texas award for contribution to art and cinema. The award was handed over to him by Deputy Mayor of Houston Ed Gonalez on behalf of Texas governor. Texas State Senate also conferred him with Senate Proclamation award. 7th August is declared the Anupam Kher day in Houston. His show Anupam Kher’s play Mera Matalab Vo Nahi Tha became very popular in Houston.

Jhumpa Lahiri Awarded National Humanities Medal by White House

10.9.2015: Writer and novelist Jhumpa Lahiri was awarded with national Humanities Medal by White House, US. President Barack Obama conferred her with this award at a ceremony held at White House. Lahiri was born in London and studies at Columbia university. She is now serving as professor of creative writing in Lewis centre for the arts, Princeton University. Earlier, she was a writer in residence at John Cabot university at Rome.

Abitha Mary Manuel and Anamika Das won Bronze Medals in Commonwealth Youth Games

10.9.2015: India won two bronze medals at 5th Commonwealth Youth Games being held in Samoa. Abitha Mary Manuel won the bronze medal in 800 m race of girls. Anamika Das won bronze medal in shot put event. India’s medal count is 10 at the event with 4 gold medals, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.

10.9.2015: HDFC Life announced the launching of a new pension plan. Consumers can now plan retirement by investing from the age of 18 years. Fund management fee and investment guarantee charges are to be paid. It also offers capital guarantee along with gains from upside from the market.

Ford Motor company signed Memorandum of understanding with Tamil Nadu

10.9.2015: As part of its expanding operating in Tamil Nadu, Ford Motor Company signed a memorandum of understanding with the government. The company is going to invest Rs. 5000 crore but the company is yet to confirm it. The company is said to be investing around Rs. 5000 crore in the next five years.
