Best Journalist Award Won by Indian Origin Scribe Adrienne Batra in Canada
9.8.2015: Indo Canadian journalist Adrienne Batra, was honored with Best Journalist award by Indian community in Canada for her achievements in field of journalism. She is 41 years old and is the editor of Toronto Sun. The best journalist is a category in Parvasi Awards that are given away each year. Parvasi awards were established in 2005 and are presented to eight recipients in different categories such as business, arts, social service and arts.
Acharya Dev Vrat and Ram Nath Kovind Appointed as Governors of Bihar
9.8.2015: Acharya Dev Vrat and Ram Nath Kovind are appointed as governors of Himachal Pradesh and Bihar respectively by Indian president Pranab Mukherjee. Kovind who is the Rajya Sabha member twice during 1994-2000 and 2000-06. He is replacing Keshri Nath Tripathi and Acharya Dev Vrat is replacing Kalyan Singh.
9th August is International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples
9.8.2015: every year, 9th August is observed as the International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples. This is to promote and protect rights of indigenous population in the world. General Assembly of UN pronounced this day in 1994 first. Theme of this year is ‘A decade for action and dignity’.
Mysuru Tops Swachh Bharat Rankings
9.8.2015: Mysuru in Karnataka topped the Swachh Bharat rankings that were released by Ministry of Urban Development. The researchers studied 476 cities during their one year long survey. Swachch Bharat was launched in 2014 by NDA governments. Thiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu followed Mysuru and stood in second position. Others in the following ranks are Mumbai, Kochi, Hassan, Mandhya and Bengaluru.
International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples is on 9th August
9.8.2015: 9th August every year is observed as the international day of World’s Indigenous people. This day was first proposed by General assembly of UN in 1994. This is to promote and protect rights of indigenous population in the world. The theme of the day this year was ‘A Decade for Action and Dignity’.
