Indian Women Hockey Team Qualified for Olympics 2016

30.8.2015:  Indian women hockey team qualified for Olympics 2016. This is the first time after 36 years that the team qualified for Olympics.    Indian women hockey team played in Olympics in 1980.  The team finished fourth.  Nine teams are already qualified for the event. Other teams qualified are Australia, China, Great Britain, Germany, Argentina, New Zealand, Korea and USA.  2016 Olympic Games will be played at Rio.

Jaisha Orchatteri Breaks Women’s Marathon National Record

30.8.2015: The World Athletics championships at Beijing national stadium ended on Sunday.  Jaisha Orchatteri broke the Indian national record. She finished the race in two hours, 34 minutes and 43 seconds. She was in 18th position and Sudha Singh, another Indian athlete finished 19th.  Both the athletes confirmed their berth for Rio Olympics 2016.  Mare Dibaba, an athlete from Ethiopia won the race with 2 hours 27 minutes and 35 seconds time. She was the first woman from her country to won the world championship marathon.

M M Kalburgi Former Vice Chancellor of Kannada University Shot Dead

30.8.2015: Kannada writer and vice chancellor of Kannada University MM Kalburgi is dead.  He was shot dead by unidentified in Dharwad. He was 77.  He won many awards which include Sahitya Akademi Award, Pampa award and Nrupatunga award.

Protestors Demand Resignation of Prime Minister in Malaysia

30.8.2015: Thousands of protestors who gathered in the capital city of Malaysia for the second day demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak. Documents about Najib receiving $700 million in his private account leaked in July this year and since then he is fighting for his political survival.

Petroleum Ministry Launched Sahaj Scheme for online LPG Connections

30.8.2015: Petroleum ministry launched Sajah scheme for online release of new LPG connections.  It is now possible to apply online for new gas connections.  They have to fill Know Your Customer, KYC form, upload photos and bank account details.  A registration number will be given to the customer to find the status of their application.  This facility will be available in only select cities for now and will be extended to other parts of the country soon.
