27.8.2015: Water man of India Rajendra Singh is conferred with 2015 Stockholm water prize. The award was presented to him at the World Water Week in Stockholm at a Royal award Ceremony. Innovative water restoration efforts, water security improvement in rural areas of India, courage and determination to improve living conditions helped Rajendra to win this award. He tackled the drought problem in Rajasthan villages through traditional earthen dams known as Johads. Stockholm water prize was founded in 1991. This award carries a sculpture and 150000 US dollars.
Rajiv Mangla Appointed CTO of Snapdeal
27.8.2015: Snapdeal announced the appointment of Rajiv Mangla as the Chief Technology officer. He was formally working for Abode. Mangla will lead all aspects of technological development of Snapdeal.
Novak Djokovic Appointed UNICET Goodwill Ambassador
27.8.2015: World top ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic is appointed as the goodwill ambassador of United Nations Children’s Fund. World Bank and Novak foundation also signed a memorandum of understanding to promote early childhood development. Other goodwill ambassadors for UNICEF earlier were David Beckham, Harry Belafone, Danny Kaye, Shakira, Serena Williams, Katy Perry, Sir Roger Moore and others.
Non-bailable Arrest Warrant Issued against Yusuf Raza Gilani
27.8.2015: Non-bailable arrest warrant is issued against former prime minister of Pakistan Yusuf Raza Gilani. This issued by an anti corruption court. Warranty is also issued against Makhdoon Amin Fahim. These two are facing corruption charges in a multi million rupee graft scandal.
Venkaiah Naidu Announced Smartcity Nominees
27.8.2015: Union minster of urban development M Venkaiah Naidu announced the names of 98 smartcity nominees. Smart City Mission covers the states that has 13 crore population across 98 cities. Uttar Pradesh has highest number of smartcity nominations and is followed by Tamil Nadu. Next is Maharashtra.
GSLV-D6 Launched Successfully from SHAR
27.8.2015: Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle D6 was launched successfully form Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. It carried 2117 kg GSAT 6, an advanced communication satellite that provides S-band communication services.
