22.8.2015: Amitabh Mattoo is appointed the advisor to J&K Prime Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Amitabh Mattoo is an academician and was the former vice chancellor of Jammu and Kashmir university.
NR Varhadpande, Sanskrit Scholar Passed Away
22.8.2015: Indologist and eminent Sanskrit scholar NR Varhadpande is no more. He breathed his last in Nagpur at the age of 94. He was popular for his works such as Aryan Invasion: A Myth that exposes fallacy of Aryan invasion. He also founded Periodical Sanskrit Bhavitavyam. Earlier he also served as the president of Sanskrit Bhasha Pracharini Sabha.
Narendra Modi’s Asian of the year Award 2014 Received by Indian High Commissioner to Singapore
22.8.2015: Prime minister of India Narendra Modi was conferred the award Asian of the year award 2014 and the award was received by high commissioner to Singapore Vijay Singh Thakur from Singapore Daily on behalf of Modi. The award was instituted in 2012 and is conferred on those who contribute to the development of their own nation of Asia.
Bandhan Universal Banking Begins Operations
22.8.2015: Bandhan Financial Service that received universal banking licence in 2014 from Reserve Bank of India began its banking operations in India. The bank is planning to open around six hundred branches in the beginning in 27 states. Managing director of the bank Chandra Sekhar Ghosh said that their aim is to help build livelihood and also to help foster holistic development.
2nd and 4th Saturdays are Holidays for Private and Public Sector Banks
22.8.2015: All the public sector and private sector banks in India will remain closed on 2nd and 4th Saturdays from September 1. “This is a welcome move. This will be a big relief to employees and I hope that this will improve the productivity of employees” said the general secretary of All India Employee’s Association. Even if the month has five Saturdays, only 2nd and 4th Sundays will be off.
Puducherry CM Launches Free Laptop Scheme
22.8.2015: Puducherry chief minister N Rangasamy launched the free laptop scheme. The government will provide free laptops to students who passed plus two in 2013-2014, 2014-2015 years. Around 11 thousand students will get these free laptops and the expense is Rs. 20 crores.
