Ashwani Lohani is the new Chairman, MD of Air India

20.8.2015: Air India announced the appointment of Ashwani Lohani as the next chairman and MD of Air India.  He is a railway official of 1980 batch.  He will be in this position for around three years.  He will succeed Rohit Nandan. Ashwani is the chief administration officer of Indian Railways Organization for Alternate Fuel.

Zia Haider Rahman Won James Tait Black Award 2015

20.8.2015: Bangladesh novelist Zia Haider Rahman won the James Tait Black Award 2015.  This award was presented to him for his debut novel In the Light of What We Know.  The book is story of an investment banker.  James Tait Black award is presented for novelists that write in English in UK and this is one of the oldest literary award that is presented annually in biography, drama and fiction categories. It carries a cash prize worth 10000 British pounds.

Maharashtra Bhushan Award for Babasaheb Purandare

20.8.2015: Balwant Moreshwar Purandare, the history writer is conferred with Maharashtra Bhushan award.  The state’s highest award was presented to him at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.  The ceremony was attended by the chief minister of Maharashtra, cultural affairs minister, industries minister, Mumbai mayor and other Shivsena MPs.  Purandare was born on 19th August 1921. His popular works include Raja Shiv Chhatrapati, Purandaryanchi Naubat, Gadsanch and so on.

Chitranjan Swarup, Minister of State Parliamentary Affairs of UP Passed Away

20.8.2015: The Uttar Pradesh minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mr Chitranjan Swarup is no more. He is 70.  He is n MLA representing Muzaffarnagar constituency and belongs to Samajwadi Party. He ear earlier elected on congress and Bhaujan Samaj Party tickets as MLA.

Adam Gilchrist Appointed Australian Education Ambassador to India

20.8.2015: Adam Gilchrist is appointed as the Australian Education Ambassador to India to strengthen education ties between the two countries.  The appointment was made by Australian Minister for Education and Training Christopher Pyne.  He is the first education ambassador. The minister is attending the Australia India education council meeting on August 24 in Delhi.


Sebastian Coe Elected President of IAAF

20.8.2015: Former Olympic champion Sebastian Coe is elected the president of International Association of Athletics Federation. He is appointed to replace Seneglese Lamine Diack.  He was the president of the association for 16 years.  Sebastian Coe is a British politician.  He won four Olympic medals including gold medal.
