18.8.2015: Kishor P Kharat is appointed as the new MD and CEO of IDBI bank.  His appointment will come to effect from August 14.  Prior to this appointment, he was the ED of Union Bank of India.  He also was with Bank of Baroda for nearly thirty years.

N Valarmathi Presented with First APJ Abdul Kalam Award

18.8.2015: N Valarmathi, the Indian Space Research Organization scientist who led the team that launched Radar Imaging Satellite in 2012 is presented with the first APJ Abdul Kalam Award. The award was presented to him by chief minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha.

Sri Lankan Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Wins Parliamentary Elections

18.8.2015: Ranil Wickremesinghe, the prime minister of Sri Lanka claimed victory in the recent parliamentary elections. He belongs to United National Party.  Rajapaksa was defeated in this election.

Suvra Mukherjee, First Lady of India Passed away

18.8.2015: The wife of President of India Suvra Mukherjee passed away in New Delhi due to ill health.  She was a singer, dancer and an artist. She founded Geetanjali Troupe. She also wrote two books Choker Aliey and Chena Achenai Chin. She was born on September 17, 1940 in Jessore.

Sachin Tendulkar Agrees to Become Maharashtra’s Tiger Ambassador

18.8.2015: Sachin Tendulkar agreed to become the tiger ambassador of Maharashtra state.  Mungitwar, the state’s forest minister wrote a letter to Sachin Tendulkar requesting him to agree to become the tiger ambassador as part of tiger conservation project.  Amitabh Bachchan was also approached for which he gave his consent. And now Sachin also replied to the forest minister agreeing to be a part of the project.

Rs. 1.25 crore Package Announced for Bihar

18.8.2015: Prime minister of India Narendra Modi announced a package of Rs. 1.25 lakh crore package to change the face and fate of Bihar. He announced this while inaugurating national highways and skill development projects in Bihar.  He also said that projects worth Rs. 40,000 crore are also underway and the total amount of package goes to Rs. 1,65,000 crore.
