Sunder Shetty Elected as President of Gymnastics Federation of India

14.8.2015: Sudhakar Shetty is elected as the new president of Gymnastic Federation of India.  He will take charge to replace Jaspal Singh Kandhrai.  He will be the president for four years.  Jaspal Singh Kandhari also contested the election but his nomination was rejected as he did not fill the address column. 

Ajinkya Rahane Takes 8 Catches in Test Match

14.8.2015:  Ajinkya Rahane took eight catches in the first test match played in Sri Lanka. This is a record and he is the first fielder in test history to achieve this. In the first innings, Rahane took three catches and sent three Sri Lankan batsmen back to pavilion. In the second innings, he took five catches. The record of most catches in tests is held by Wally Hammond, an English man and he achieved this feat in 1928.

Pakistan Celebrates Independence Day on 14th August

14.8.2015: 14th August is the independence day of Pakistan.  India’s Independence Day is day after and falls on 15th August. Border forces at Wagah border exchange sweets on this occasion. The other two occasions are Eid and Diwali.  This year Border Security Forces have decided to accept the sweets and gifts from Pakistan forces to protest the series of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

Home Ministry Launched YouTube Channel

14.8.2015: Home ministry of India launched the YouTube channel. The channel was launched by Kirne Rijiju, Minister of State for Home.  This move is to strengthen online presence of Ministry and to disseminate the information through videos.

Pahal Program Acknowledged by Guinness World Records

14.8.2015: Pratyanksha Hastaantarit Laabh the cash transfer program is acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the largest cash transfer program.  More than 13.9 crore LPG consumers joined PAHAL scheme.  Direct cash transfer program was launched on 1st June, 2013 in 291 districts.  Due to some inconvenience to the consumers, the program was re launched and named as PAHAL in 2014 in 54 districts.  Under this scheme, the consumers of LPG cylinders buy them for market price and the subsidy amount given by union government will be deposited into their bank accounts.
