UK Author Ali Smith won Baileys Women Prize 2015 for Fiction

08.06.2015: US author Ali Smith won the 2015 Bailey Women Prize for fiction. She won the prize for her novel ‘How to be Both’. Other nominees for the award were Canadian Author Rachel Cusk, English Author Laline Paull and Pakistani author Kamila Shamsie.

Vijay Sharma is the new Chief Information Commissioner

08.06.2015: Former Environment Secretary Vijay Sharma is appointed as the new chief information commissioner. He will be in this position for about six months. He will attain the age of 65 years on December 1st. Vijay Sharma is the senior most information commissioner.

K V Chowdary Appointed as the New Central Vigilance Commissioner

08.06.2015: former central board of direct taxes chairman K V Chowdary is appointed as the new central vigilance commissioner. He is the first non IAS officer to be appointed as the chief of central vigilance commission since 1964 when it was formed. President Pranab Mukherjee approved their appointment. Chowdary is now working as the adviser in Supreme Court.

Telangana Poet Dasarathi Rangacharya Passed Away

08.06.2015: Well-known poet and writer Dasarathi Rangacharya passed away. He was 1986. His few famous works were Modugu Poolu, Chillara Devullu and so on. He was awarded Sahitya Akademi award for his work Chillara Devullu. Dasarathi was born on 24th August, 1928. He fought against Nizam’s autocratic rule and also took part in Telangana Armed struggle. Chief ministers of both the Telugu states condoled the demise of the poet.

Stanislas Wawrinka Won Men’s Single Title of French Open

08.06.2015: Stanisla Wawrinka of Switzerland won French open men’s singles title. This is his first French open title. Wawrinka defeated Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the final match played in Paris at Roland Garros. This is the second grand slam title of Wawrinka. He won the Australian open in 2014. Djokovic who was defeated by Wawrinka lost a match winning 28 matches consecutively.

Virat Kohli Led Indian Cricket Team Arrived in Dhaka

08.06.2015: Team India is going to play one test and three one day international matches in Bangladesh. The test will begin o 10th June. Team India reached Dhaka for this short series. The team is led by Virat Kohli.
