This is the twentieth century for De Villiers in his career. He remained in the crease till the end. South Africa batsmen found it difficult to face West Indies bowlers in the beginning of the match. Opener Decock was out when his individual score was 12 runs. In the first 15 overs, the score of South Africa was only 50 which was the lowest against West Indies in any match. Another opener Amla and Duplessis added 127 runs to the second wicket. De Villiers came into batting at fifth place. Except West Indies captain Holder, who scored a half century, all other batsmen failed to score runs. Last match double century hero Gayle also disappointed as he lost his wicket for 3 runs.

This is the first time that a team scored 400 runs in a one day match in Australia. This is also the second highest score in world cups. First highest score was 413 scored by India against Bermuda in 2007. Interestingly India defeated Bermuda by 257 runs and South Africa equaled it by defeating West Indies by same runs.

De Villiers became the first man to score fastest 150 in one day matches. He needed only 64 balls to reach the 150 mark. He now hold the fastest 50, fastest 100 and fastest 150 runs records.

De Villiers needed 52 runs to scroe 100. This is the second fastest century in world cup matches. Kevin Obrien of Ireland scored first fastest century in world cup in 2011. He scored century in 50 balls.
