Toyota Innova 2016 Spied – 2.5L Diesel to challenge Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, Mahindra Scorpio and Renault Duster

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is ruling the Multi Purpose Vehicle segment of the Indian market from the past few years with the introduction of the ‘Innova’. The model has been one of the most sold MPVs in India and is maintaining appreciable sales figures since its debut in the year 2005. A number of special edition variants and few refreshed variants of the model have been launched earlier and Toyota is likely to launch a major face lift next year.

Market conditions in India have changed dramatically over past few years and it is not that easy for Innova to stay on top currently as it did before. The competition in the market has increased enormously when compared with that in the year 2005. Though the upcoming edition of Innova has been flagged as 2016 variant, we could expect its debut by the end of next most probably. Toyota has almost finished with the development phase of the 2016 Innova and has already started testing the same. An enthusiast has revealed a set of spy images of a test mule recently over web which have received lakhs of views within few hours.

As we could observe from the respective spy images, the base structure of the 2016 Innova seems to be as same as that of the current gen variant. The test mule is fully covered with camouflage and very few parts of the vehicle are visible. However, we can expect a wide number of cosmetic changes in the upcoming Innova relatively than the outgoing one, as the manufacturer has already given hint of the next gen design language with the recently launched Corolla sedan. There might be chance for adding a bunch of technical features along with some safety features. We are likely to get a brand new 2.5 litre diesel engine in place of the current unit which is expected to be more fuel efficient and powerful relatively.
