Seven Indians Won Nobel Prize in 100 Year: Indians and People of Indian Origin Who Won Nobel Prize

Nobel committee announced Peace Prize for the year 2014 for Malala Yousafzai and Kailash satyarthi. Both were announced this award for their struggle against suppression of children and women for the right of all children to education, the jury said.

New Delhi: Satyarthi runs Save childhood Movement. Malala is the youngest recipient of Nobel peace prize and she is only 17. She was shot by Taliban militants for advocating education for girls.

Four of the Nobel awards are given by Swedish committee but the peace prize is given by Norwegian committee. This arrangement was made according to the will of Mr. Alfred Nobel. But the reason for this is unknown. This award is given away to the recipients on December 10 which is the death anniversary of Nobel. From 1901 to 2014, only 128 people received this award. Sixteen of them are women. Three recipients shared this award twice. Three winners were in jail when the prize was announced to them.

Till now seven Indians won Nobel Prize in various categories. The first person to win the Nobel prize if Ravindranath Tagore who won it in 1913. Except in Chemistry, Indians won Nobel prize in all categories.

  • Kailash Satyarthi won the award for peace in 2014

  • Mohammad Younan who is a Bangladeshi born in India
  • A charity organization, IPCC run by Rajendrakumar Vachauri, an Indian also won Nobel peace prize
