Happy New Year Already Created One More Record

The latest movie of Shahrukh Khan-Deepika is Happy New Year and the movie is very much on its way to create new records.

Mumbai: Shahrukh Khan proves to be lucky star in Bolllywood. His much talked movie Happy New Year released world-wide on 23rd October and in India a day later.

The opening day collections of the movie recorded the highest in the history of Indian movies. As per the published reports, the Happy New Year (HNY) movie collected nearly Rs.45 crores. This is the highest ever collections. This collection surpasses the earlier record set by Dhoom3 (starring Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachhan & Katrina Kaif) which collected Rs.36.22 crores on the opening day. Collections of HNY stand 25% above the Dhoom3 record.

A quick look at the highest opening day grosser indicate Shahrukh’s Chennai Express is ranking 3rd position with Rs. 33.12 crores immediately followed by Ek Tha Tiger of Salman Khan at Rs. 32.93 crores. Ajay Devgn’s ‘Singham Returns’ is close follower of Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger with opening day gross of Rs. 32.09 crores.

While HNY opened on Diwali festival, Dhoom released on a routine working day. Tiger & Singham started their collections on 15th August which is a national holiday in our country.

This year we have seen Bang Bang (starring Hrithik Roshan & Katrina Kaif) collecting opening day gross of Rs. 28 crores. The movie released on 2nd October 2014 which again happened to be a national holiday in our country and additionally, the movie also had the privilege of extended holidays throughout the country in view of Gandhi Jayanthi immediately followed by Dasara, Saturday and Sunday being the weekend.

Salman’s Kick is another instance. This movie released on 25th July 2014 collected opening day gross of Rs, 26.40 crores. Incidentally, the opening day happened to be Eid and many hits of Salman released on the same day in previous years as well.

In close competition to Bollywood, Kollywood is able to show its supremacy in terms of collections. The opening day collections of Katthi movie stood at a record of Rs.12.50 crores and the movie is very much on its way to record collections in history of Tollywood and Kollywood as well.

Coming to HNY, though the movie received average talk at the box office in view of the poor story line and script as well, the opening day collections at Rs. 45 crores is very much indicative that the HNY is going to re-write records in terms of collections of Bollywood. Incidentally, the opening day collections of HNY cross the budget of a Tollywood movie with top rated hero.
