Toyota Camry Hybrid launched in Japan – Price around Rs. 30 lakhs, tackles Honda Accord Hybrid

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the Hybrid edition of the Camry sedan in the Japanese market. The manufacturer has launched the refreshed edition of the sedan few weeks ago at the Moscow Motor Show and the hybrid edition sedan is having many similarities with the respective refreshed edition. Indian launch of both these models is still due and we could expect the same to happen by the end of March next year.

Exterior look of the all new Camry Hybrid Blue coloured Toyota logo and etc is very similar to that of Refreshed Camry. As per the information, Toyota is likely to import Camry Hybrid through Completely Knocked Down kits into the Malaysian market as the Government of Malaysia has given tax exemption for the manufacturer up to 2015. However, Indian market would also import both Refreshed Camry and Camry Hybrid through the same route and we could expect them to get assembled at the manufacturer’s plant located at Bidadi, Karnataka. Due to the heavy import duties and other taxes, we can expect them to carry a heavier price tag most probably and the price of the model could be around Rs. 30 lakhs.

The Japanese edition of the Camry Hybrid sedan comes powered with the same 2.5 litre four cylinder engine which was seen on the current gen edition. The respective engine is capable of generating around 160 PS power at the peak along with 213 Nm of torque. An electric motor producing around 143 PS power and 270 Nm of torque at the peak will accompany the main engine and the combined power output of the unit will be around 205 PS. The current gen Camry sedan is delivering around 19.16 kmpl ARAI certified mileage on an average in Indian conditions. Toyota has claimed that the new Camry Sedan is capable of delivering around 25.4 kmpl on Japanese roads whereas the former edition has delivered just 23.4 kmpl on same road conditions.
