Canon EOS 7D Mark II DSLR is the Newest APS-C Format Camera

The Canon EOS 7D Mark II DSLR was on top of charts for full five years before going for a pro full-frame camera. Newer APS-C models like the EOS 70D were showing up. However, the EOS 7D Mark II upstaged it with its 10fps continuous shooting, 2fps faster than its speedy predecessor, a new higher resolution sensor and an extremely sophisticated autofocus system.

Tokyo: The EOS 7D Mark II has a 65-point AF system, all of them cross-type as compared to the earlier 7D which had a 19-point autofocus system, all 19 points being high performance cross-type sensors. Its more than the EOS-1 DX, Canon’s full frame pro DSLR. Mark II also uses Canon’s clever Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology to provide faster, more decisive autofocus in live view media than you can get from regular contrast AF systems.

It will be useful for movies and the EOS 7D Mark II gets a boost here too. It can shoot full HD footage (1920×800) pixels at frame rates up to 60p and it offers uncompressed 4:2:2 HDMI output to external records. There is an external mic socket as well as a headphone socket for monitoring noise during recording.

The original 7D had 18m pixels which was pretty impressive and it goes further with a much more modern 20.2 MP sensor. It a lower resolution than the 24MP sensors of other DSLR cameras. Twenty million pixels is still a lot by absolute standards.

Besides phase detection autofocus, the new sensor brings a much higher maximum ISO than the original 7D, up from ISO 6,400 to ISO 16,000. This can be expanded to ISO 51,200 in an emergency. The EOS 7D Mark II is also impressive to look at. Its price too can be luring like Pounds 1,600 from November 2014 onwards.

Meanwhile, Canon PowerShot G7 X is a small compact camera with a big sensor. With a 1-inch 20.2m pixel sensor and high quality build, the G7X looks like a strong competitor against the Sony RX100 II. The lens control ring and touch screen make setting adjustments faster and there is scope for improvement in image quality. But it has no view finder and has a fixed screen.
