India Vs England 5 Match Series 2014: India’s Historical Win ends 28 years Drought at Lord’s

Team India created history by winning the second test match played at Lords. Team India is now leading the five test match series with England with 1-0. The team won the match by 95 runs. India won a test match at Lords after 28 years.

London: Success at Lords remained sour grape of many Indian cricketers such as Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Sehwag and Kumble. But the young players in Indi created history on the 200 year historical ground. Most of the young players in the team are playing at Lords for the first time and thus enjoying every moment of their victory. This is going to be a memorable win for the players, the captain and Team India.

Each and every player of Team India had a key role in the victory. England began its innings on the fifth with an overnight score of 105/4 and everyone expected that India will have an easy win. But at the end of the first session, England was still playing on 173/4 and had 6 wickets in hand. It needed another 146 runs to win the match. Dhoni’s surprise weapon Ishanth Sharma starred in the win. His bowling figures 7/74 are the best in his career. England was all out for 223 runs.

India won a test match outside India in 2011. After that it lost 15 matches – 4 in England, 4 in Australia, 1 in south Africa and one in New Zealand. Dhoni was facing criticism also for this. Dhoni went to England for the test series with young players and said while going that they will not leave any chance that will help them win the match. Though the first test was a draw, it won the second test match. Dhoni’s strategies in changing the bowlers in England’s second innings proved beneficial.

This is the second time that an Indian pacer claimed 7 wickets in an innings. Ishanth does not like short pitch balls. But it was Dhoni’s idea which is followed with half heart. After he claimed the wicket of Ali, he gained confidence, said Dhoni after the match. Ishanth also said that bowling short pitch balls was the idea of the captain.

Before this match Team India played 16 matches in Lords and won only one 28 years ago in the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The match was played between June 5 and 10 in 1986.
