Bollywood And Small Screen Going Hand In Hand
Small screen can be described as an extended arm of Bollywood. The hand-in-hand moving of both these industries is healthy for many reasons.
Delhi: Bollywood is producing more number of movies for entertainment of the audience. Similarly small screen (read television) is liked by every household. The increased number of channels offered by small screen is bringing entertainment direct to home.
Many of the channels are depending on movies (from Bollywood and other regional languages as well). They are producing more and more programs and shows based on bollywood and are also having bollywood stars as anchor/judge and other promoters for these shows.
Big B Amitabh Bachhan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) has been a trendsetter in this regard. His commercial entity Amitabh Bachhan Corporation Limited (ABCL) was in deep financial trouble and Big B got opportunity to host KBC. The show became the biggest hit in the television industry with highest TRP ratings and the financial problems of both Big B and his ABCL got cleared.
Maduri Dixit is another great actress who has been associated with small screen as a judge for Jhalak Dikhla Jaa (for season 4, 5 & 6). The dance show being aired on ‘colors TV’ has been able to gain increased popularity that the show entered its 7th season. Besides the excellent dance performance by the participants/competitors, the additional attraction for the success of the movie can be attributed to the excellent anchoring in its various seasons.
Anil Kapoor’s performance in TV show ‘24’ aired during end of 2013 is a much talked about program. The plot of the serial was based on American series with the same name. Anil Kapoor produced the show and also acted in the same.
Now the small screen is going to be filled with more and more Bollywood stars.
One of the senior actors Raj Babbar is scheduled to enter small screen with a show by Vipul Shah. The middle class Punjabi family story will be having Raj Babbar debuting his TV career and will be having Subhangi Latkar and Rannvijay Singha in roles of mother & son respectively. The show highlighting the family conflicts between father and son and bridge role by mother is going to be on one of the popular channel and the details are still awaited.
The Ishqzaade girl Parineeti Chopra is also set to enter television as a judge for reality show (for couple of episodes). Reality shows became popular with Shilpa Shetty winning one of the biggest prize money. The concept of reality show is novel in the sense that the actors/participants are required to show variety of shades in their performance.
