Then came a trend wherein comedy is written and scripted as a special track. Many of the comedy tracks got scripted by Appalacharya. This is a technique where some comedy scenes are attached to the movie and in most of the cases the comedy scenes appear after heavy dose of sentiment in the main story.

Then came a special team of directors who depended majorly on comedy as the baseline for their movies.

Jandhyala is the first and foremost name in the list of directors who appreciated comedy. Though short lived (he died at the age of 50 years), Jandhyala has directed 37 movies. He was dialogue writer for 8 movies including super hit Adavi Ramudu, Sankarabharanam, JVA Sundari etc. Jandhyala also lent his voice for 6 movies. His comic movies include: Nalugu Stambhalata, Aha Na Pellanta, Choopulu Kalisina Subhavela, Vivaha Bhojanamu, Rendu Rellu Aaru, Mogudu Pellalu, Hai Hai Nayaka, Bava Bava Panneeru etc.

Another Tollywood director who became very famous for movies with comedy as baseline is Relangi Narasimha Rao. During his career he directed more than 70 movies in various regional languages and his comedy hits in Telugu include Ulta Palta, Ammo Bomma, Apparao Nela Tappadu etc.

EVV Satyanarayana is a name that can’t be forgotten while mentioning about the directors who gave lot of comedy for Telugu audience. EVV directed 51 movies during his filmy career from Chevilo Puvvu (1990 movie) till Katti Kanta Rao (2010 movie). Out of the total movies directed by EVV, most famous are: Katti Kanta Rao, Bendu Appa Rao RMP, Kitakitalu, Evadi Gola Vadidi, Maa Alludu Very Good, Totti gang (starring Allari Naresh in the lead role. EVV also ventured super hit movies like Aavida Maa Avide, Hello Brother with Nagarjuna in the lead role. EVV & Rajendra Prasad combination has super hits like Aaa Okkati Adakku, Alibaba Aradozen Dongalu.

A quick look at the list of movies by EVV indicates that he got excellent support for his comedy movies from his son Allari Naresh & also Rajendra Prasad who is equally famous for his comic movies. He worked as assistant director with Jandhyala and worked for his movies like Rendu Jalla Seetha, Rendu Rellu Aaru. It seems EVV got inspiration for comedy movies from Jandhyala.

Presently Ravi Babu is another director who is trying to make some comedy movies. EVV trend is continued by his assistant E Satti Babu.

Now that we have large number of comedians, more and more directors focusing mainly on comedy are expected to enrich the Telugu film industry.
