What Aam Aadmi Party Can Do Now?
The initial hype about Aam Aadmi Party by Arvind Kejriwal is coming down to normalcy. The present elections got AAP just 4 MP seats.
Ludhiana: The performance of AAP in the present general elections is reflected in 4 MP seats that the party is winning from Punjab. Despite the strong alliance between SAD & BJP in the state, AAP has been able to make an entry in the state’s politics.
For starter like AAP, win of 4 MP seats is not an ordinary thing. However, there are certain lessons that the party and the leadership need to learn. The lessons might help the party perform even better in the future elections.
On start up, the party got highest rankings in the various surveys. The party has been given the 2nd largest strength in the assembly of country’s capital Delhi. The mandate given by the voters of Delhi could not ensure clear majority for the party and hence AAP decided to take public opinion. On acceptance by public, AAP formed government at Delhi state with support of congress. But just in 49 days, party resigned and suggested to the LG of Delhi to dissolve the state assembly. The Lieutenant Governor approved the resignation of the government but did not accept the recommendation to dissolve the assembly. He kept the state assembly in suspended animation stage and imposed president rule in the Delhi state.
Even during the AAP party in government, the party leaders preferred fight with central government on various issues rather than solving the problems of the Delhi people. The basic amenities like water, electricity also were not on priority list of the AAP government.
Left with little activity after Delhi episode, Kejriwal started criticizing leaders of political parties duly mentioning about the corruption activities of those leaders. He even published some lists of corrupt politicians and these lists include who is who of Indian polity.
With the schedule for general elections being declared, Kejriwal told that his AAP would be contesting in the elections. He left the Delhi voters and preferred to contest the general elections.
All these actions of Kejriwal were not acceptable to the common man and hence he started receiving negative response wherever he goes. He even received physical attacks on many occasions. Egg throwing has been one of the common activity by protesters against Kejriwal.
In the present elections 2014, Kejriwal stood against Narendra Modi in Varanasi (in UP). Modi declared winner in the elections.
The AAP rose to the highest position of forming government in Delhi state, but in this election the party has not been able to secure any seats in Delhi state. The only consolation for the party is that it is winning 4 MP seats from Punjab.
