Political Parties Unable To Tackle Rebels
All the political parties are facing similar problem regarding the rebels in various constituencies. This situation of rebels is arising due to many leaders seeking ticket for the same seat and poll alliance is another reason for ‘rebels’.
Hyderabad: Almost all the political parties are facing the problem of rebels. Once the last date for filing of nominations is over, the count of rebels is available from all the parties.
A person filing nomination for election, defying the party directives, is referred as rebel. Causes for the ‘rebels’ can be many as under:
- Candidate is offered a seat in a constituency that he is not interested to contest.
- Candidate is rejected seat in constituency of his choice where he feels he has strength.
- Due to poll alliance, some seats may have to be given to the alliance partner thereby leading to dissatisfaction among the local who will be filing the nomination as rebel.
Election commission will take a decision whether a contestant is official or rebel, only based on the B-form issued by the party. If the candidate is able to submit the required the B form he is official candidate or else he would be treated as an independent candidate for that election. Election commission would decide the election symbol to be given to the candidates. The official candidates are given the election symbol as that of the party to which they are affiliated. The rebels (treated as independents by the election commission) would be getting different election symbols as decided by the EC.
In view of the latest political development (in connection with split of AP) many congress leaders (sitting MLAs & MPs) left the party to join other parties like YSRCP & TDP. Naturally, this has created much rush for the tickets in both these parties. The chiefs of these parties found it very difficult to accommodate the existing leaders as well as the incomers from congress.
Besides, TDP has another cause for rebels. The pre-poll alliance with BJP also caused much dissidence to TDP’s local leaders who have been with the party since long. Those leaders have done more local work expecting tickets in this election.
The top leadership of all the political parties is under pressure to ensure that the rebels withdraw their candidature before the last date. As the rebels find themselves more popular in their local area, their demand has to be dealt with, in a different manner as otherwise the winning chances for the official candidates can get affected with presence of these rebels.
