Elections 2014: Hate Speeches

Hate Speeches To Be Restrained By The Candidates Themselves.

In democratic process political parties as well as the candidates are free to canvass their ideology and seek votes from the voters. In addition to canvassing their ideologies, some politicians are crossing the limits and indulging in extra talk.

New Delhi: The present general elections are becoming more and more familiar for wrong reasons. The majority of the campaign is consisting of ‘hate speeches’, ‘revenge speeches’, ‘threatening speeches’ etc.

Hate speeches by Azam Khan and Amit Shah invited strict warning from EC as well as ban from rallies in UP. Amit Shah (BJP) apologized and got relief from the EC dictum. Azam Khan did not want to ‘apologise’ and so he is still unable to get similar relief from EC (as provided to Amit Shah). Now Azam Khan and group are criticizing the EC’s action of granting relief to Amit Shah. They are making an issue of this and attacking the EC mentioning its act as ‘treatment with partiality’.

BJP leader Giriraj Singh while campaigning in Jharkhand mentioned that ‘those criticizing Modi need to vacate India’. Giriraj’s comments are likely to attract unwarranted criticism. All along the BJP canvassing has been on positive lines whereas these recent comments are going to act as a black spot on the BJP campaigning style.

Ajit Pawar Dy. CM of Maharashtra seem to have threatened villagers of cutting off their water supply if they don’t vote for Supriya Sule, NCP nominee and daughter of Sharad Pawar. The opponent who is AAP contestant Suresh Khopade immediately lodged complaint with EC on this issue.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and its chief KCR use a different language altogether. KCR’s comments, most of the times, criticize the other political parties mainly from Seemandhra area. Very recently KCR commented (during one of his election campaigns) “these Seemandhra parties do not have any work in Telangana”. As on date the state is united (till 2nd June 2014 the appointed date). Even before the elections are completed and the results declared, KCR’s these remarks are receiving more criticism.

Not to miss, Sonia’s latest comments include “they (BJP) will make India into pieces”.

Congress candidate from Saharanpur (UP) commented that he would “chop Modi into pieces”. On this hate speech, he was arrested and later released on bail.

Senior BJP leader Uma Bharathi commented “once the Modi forms government at centre, the UP government will collapse”. These comments are un-called for from senior like Uma Bharathi.

Political parties and leaders should confine themselves to declaring their ideologies and seeking votes instead of indulging into hate/revenge/threatening speeches
