World AIDS Day is on December 1: First World AIDS Day was Observed in 1987

AIDS/HIV is a disease caused by one’s own deeds in most of the cases. As on date, there is no perfect medicine for curing this disease. It is rather easy to prevent rather to cure the AIDS/HIV. On this the World Aids Day, let’s commit ourselves for a healthier society, country and world

New York: World Aids Day in 2014 is on December 1.AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) was first recognized in North America in the early 1980s. It is caused by a virus known as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).HIV infection has become a worldwide epidemic. HIV is more common among certain populations at risk.

The Background: World AIDS Day was first conceived in August 1987 by James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter, two public information officers for the Global Program on AIDS at the World Health Organization in Geneva. They took their idea to Dr. Jonathan Mann, Director of the Global Programme on AIDS (now known asUNAIDS), who liked the concept, approved it, and agreed with the recommendation that the first observance of World AIDS Day should be 1st December 1988. From then, the World Aids Day has been celebrated on 1st December every year. The day has been an opportunity for public and private partners to disseminate information about the status of the pandemic and to encourage progress in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care around the world, particularly in high prevalence countries.

UN has been organizing many events to create awareness word-wide for prevention of AIDS/HIV. 30 years after the first cases of HIV – the red ribbon is the universal symbol of awareness and support for those living with HIV. The Red Ribbon continues to be a powerful force in the efforts to increase public awareness of HIV.
