Sony Sirius Specifications leaked, coming at MWC 2014

Sony has unveiled the Xperia Z1 Compact at CES 2014, which is a smaller version of their flagship Xperia Z1. Unlike a lot of other ‘mini’ versions of popular smartphones it doesn’t skimp on specification.

Las Vegas:The company held back its new flagship smartphone at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona next month, according to a tweet by trusted leakster @evleaks. The new handset will be the successor to Sony’s popular Xperia Z1 flagship launched last year.Coming to Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, the device will land in the UK in mid-February, but no details on how much it’ll cost have been given so far.

According to the tweet, the smartphone reportedly codenamed ‘Sirius’, will feature a 5.2-inch display and Qualcomm MSM8974AB processor, a variant of the Snapdragon 800 chipset with a higher-clocked GPU and memory. Previous rumours claimed that the smartphone would feature the next-generation Snapdragon 805 chipset, but given that the first wave of devices powered by the processor are only due in the second half of 2014, the latest information seems more likely. Other rumours about Sirius suggest that it will offer a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel display, 20.7MP primary camera, 3GB of RAM and a 3,500mAh battery. And at first it will be coming to Verizon in the US. No more details are currently available about this smartphone.

According to another tweet by @evleaks, Sony will also launch a ‘Castor’ tablet, which will also pack in the Qualcomm MSM8974AB processor, and be available in 4G and Wi-Fi variants.@evleaks hasn’t mentioned if the tablet will also be unveiled at MWC, but we’re guessing that Sony will most likely launch them together. Sony will definitely be looking to make a mark in the tablet space this year, given that its last tablet was the Xperia Tablet Z, launched a year ago.Presumably, both devices will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat, and the regular lineup of Sony apps and services.

MWC is still a month away, so we’re expecting more details about the devices to surface closer to the date. Meanwhile, we’re midway through CES, where Sony just unveiled the Xperia Z1 Compact, a mini variant of its Xperia Z1 flagship.
