Google Proposes Nexus 8 Tablet with 7” Display with 2560 x 1440 Resolution

Google proposes to expand its range with an 8 inch version of Nexus, according to Digitimes. It is likely to be built by Asus like Nexus 7 and may comprise of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon or Intel Bay Trail T-chips. The proposed Nexus 8 will appear next summer. It is supposed to gain over its predecessor Nexus 7 whose demand has waned in comparison with good quality 7 inch tablets.

New York: The idea of Nexus products is set the bar for good quality Android devices at a range of prices. An 8 inch tablet is expected to have top notch specs like a full HD screen or may be even better like 2,560×1440 pixel screens that are likely to be on this year’s most expensive devices. Asus has an advantage in product designs and purchasing components.

The tablet is set to compete directly with the Apple iPad mini. It is likely to have Android Kitkat Operating System. However, Digitimes does not have the best of track records and has only quoted “upstream supply chain sources” it is alleged. Also it is rumored that Google might altogether dump its Nexus tagline for a new name.

With the Intel Bay Trail T-chips one can expect 64-bit quad core experience. The sources said that more specifications will be out after February, meaning at Mobile World Congress (MWC) release is not on the cards. Earlier rumors too quoted sources as saying that Google was working on an 8 inch version of its Nexus range. But later it turned out to be LG G 4G 8.3. Nevertheless, rumors are still afloat that Google has not given up on the 8-inch version and it could be see the light of day in mid-2014.

This is the first time that Nexus is using an Intel chip. Asus the proposed builder of the tablet has already worked with Intel chips in other tablets including the Bay Trail-powered Transformer Book T100. Though Digitimes has not said anything about it, Google might also shift from Asus to LG for the manufacture of its Nexus 8 tablet.
