10.01.2014: Ila Pathak, Social Activist, Passes Away. She died due to brief illness. She was an active member of the movement for secular democracy. Pathak acted as Vice President of people Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL).

Supreme Court directed the Sahara Group to reveal the source of the Rs.22885 Crore refund to the investors

10.01.2014: Sahara Group claimed Rs22885 Crores and it had refunded to the investors. Supreme Court directed the group to reveal the source of this amount. Bench has given the time up to 23rd January 2014. If company do not reveal the source by 23rd January 2014, case will be hand overed to Registrar of companies (ROC) and central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Introduction of National Youth Policy 2014 Approved by the cabinet

10.01.2014: Introduction of National Youth Policy 2014 Approved by the cabinet. National Youth Policy 2003 will be replaced by National Youth Policy 2014. Aim of this new policy is to empower youth to achieve their full potential and through them enable India to find its rightful Place in the community of nations.

Distance to Galaxies measured by the Scientists

10.01.2014: For the first time scientists measured the distance to galaxies. This distance is six billion light years away accurate to 1%. Using Sloan Foundation Telescope map was created from the BOSS (Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey).

Tawang II Hydroelectric project approved by Ministry of Environment and Forest

10.01.2014: Tawang II Hydroelectric of 800 MW project in Arunachal Pradesh was approved by Ministry of Environment and Forest. This project will be executed by NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation). Project to be set up on the Tawangchu River. Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 6112.30 crores.

India’s first gun for woman launched

10.01.2014: India’s first gun for woman launched yesterday. Name of this gun is Nirbheek. It is a tribute to the gang rape victim of December 2012, Nirbhaya. Indian Ordnance Factory has manufactured the gun. This gun is 0.32 bore light weight.
