Nexus 4 vs Nexus 5: Should you go in for an upgrade?

Google has launched the next iteration of its popular Android smartphone, the Nexus 4 in the form of Nexus 5 and the latter has already been launched on the Play Store for India for Rs 28,999 and Rs 32,999. The Nexus 4, however is available at a price of around Rs 21,000-22,000 in the Indian market. We take a look at the specs to find out if the Nexus 5 is worth the price difference Google is seeking.

The Google Nexus 5 is here in the market and everyone is wondering if it is worth the upgrade. Let us have a comparative look at these two smartphones to determine whether Nexus 5 does has an edge over Nexus 4 or not:

Display: Nexus 4 features a True HD IPS Plus touch display of 4.7 inches with a resolution of 768 x 1280 pixels. On the other hand, Nexus 5 comes with a Full HD IPS Plus display of 4.95 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

Processor: Nexus 4 has been equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core processor of 1.5 Giga Hertz where as the Nexus 5 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor of 2.26 Giga Hertz.

Operating System: Nexus 4 works on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean version while Nexus 5 runs on Android 4.4 KitKat platform. However, company is planning to make Nexus 4 upgradable to Android 4.4 version.

Memory: Both the devices offer a RAM of 2 GB. Nexus 4 comes in 8 GB and 16 GB internal memory variants where as the Nexus 5 will come in 16 GB and 32 GB internal memory variants. Both the smartphones do not feature expandable memory.

Camera: Both the smartphones carry a rear camera of 8 mega pixels and a front facing shooter of 1.3 mega pixels.

Connectivity Features: Both, Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, offer connectivity features such as Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G. Nexus 5 also offers 4G.

Battery: Nexus 4 has been equipped with a battery of 2100 mAh. Nexus 5 comes with a slightly better battery of 2300 mAh capacity.

Our Take: After considering the specifications and features of both the devices, it is quite apparent that Nexus 5 is a great deal better than Nexus 4 in every aspect. Nexus 5 is truly a worthy device.
