IPL 6: Sehwag Helps Delhi Open Account in IPL
New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils opened its points account in IPL 6. After six consecutive defeats it won the match against Mumbai Indian. After a long time, Sehwag and Sachin played in their own style and entertained the audience with their beautiful shots. Sehwag, who is playing for the Delhi Daredevils team score 95 unbeaten runs in 57 balls. In score included 13 fours and 2 sixes. Captain Jayawardene score 59 in 43 balls with 8 fours and one six. With the contribution of these two batsmen, the huge target of 162 runs was easily achieved by Delhi Daredevils team. Delhi defeated Mumbai Indians by nine wickets in the match that was played on 21st April, 2013 at Feroz shah Kotla stadium in Delhi.
Mumbai scored 161 runs by losing 4 wickets in specified 20 overs. Sachin Tendulkar scored 54 runs in 47 balls. Rohit Sharma scored 73 in 43 balls. Delhi team scored 165 runs for the loss of one wicket in 17 overs. Virendra Sehwag and Jayawardene added 151 runs for the first wicket. Sehwag was declared the man of the match.
Openers of Mumbai Indians could not give a good start to the team. Smith and Dinesh karthik lost their wicket quickly. Sachin was then joined by Rohit Sharma. Both these players played wonderful shots. After a long time, Sachin entertained the fans with his mark of shots. In the 12th over, Sachin gave a return catch to Nadeem which was dropped by Nadeem. Sachin and Rohit completed their half centuries. In the next over Sachin was sent to the pavilion. Mumbai set the target of 162 runs for Delhi Daredevils.
Captain Jayawardene and Sehwag opened the innings for Delhi. Sehwag, who was being criticized for his bad form since many days, proved himself with beautiful shots. He completed half century in 31 balls. Captain Jayawardene also completed his half century in 33 balls. When Delhi needed 11 runs, Jayawardene was sent to the pavilion by Malinga. In the 17th over, Sehwag hit a four and ended the match.
Virendra Sehwag’s 95 runs are the best individual score till now in IPL 6. Delhi openers added 151 runs for the first wicket and this is the best first wicket partnership for Delhi team in IPL and also the best partnership for any wicket in this season. Sehwag scored 2028 runs in IPL. He is the seventh player to cross the 2000 runs mark.
